Eye candy

It’s not that I’ve not been doing anything interesting that I haven’t posted much lately, it’s just that I realised I need to put photos in my posts more often. I have quite a few pending posts that ‘just’ need photos, and it’s getting around to taking them that’s the sticking point.

I have been to a reenactors fair, and that got me interested in sprang again, so I have finished off some bits of sprang that had been sitting around unfinished for far too long, and done a couple of plain samples to find out how thick a yarn I need for some replica sashes, I have several lengths of tablet weaving, and some interesting WIPs, all need photgraphing, if they’re going to make the basis of any interesting posts.

In the meantime, I have played around with double faced methods, (nothing photogenic there, alas!), made a pair of mini felted boots to go on the xmas tree, and spent a night in an unheated Anglo-Saxon house after the ‘Yule’ Feast.

And now I’m busy planning a trip to Morocco!

The wonders of modern media

Having suggested to several people over the weekend, to contact me through this blog, I thought it would be a good idea to get an email with the same name. It would be much easier for folks to spell/remember than my personal email address.

First I tried yahoo, but they need a mobile phone number and to cut a long story short, they took so long sending the registration text, that the page I needed to enter the number on expired before it arrived. After at least three tries over several hours, I figured it’s time to try their ‘call me’ option instead but that’s when yahoo started giving me page error messages instead of the registration page, so I gave up and tried gmail instead. I’d already changed my user name to Ancient Weaver for posting comments on youtube and other peoples’ blogs, so was rather taken aback to be told that I couldn’t have a gmail address with ancientweaver as the name. It was already taken. Errm yeah, I took it . . .

So, back to Yahoo again, and they seem to have fixed whatever was slowing down their registration system, so I finally have an easy to remember email address.

Better than selfies

Someone else took a few photos while I was setting up.

I’m in the Anglo Saxon village at West Stow, making a header band for WWL weaving. The pattern is a very simple Egyptian diagonals, reversed every ten picks. The yarn is 17/2 wool, which will hopefully give me around 14 epcm, which is appropriate for the period. The TW weft (wwl warp) is all one colour so to make two colour cloth I will use the grey/brown as weft on the WWL.

Old dog, new tricks?

Well, in trying to make my first post stay on the intro page, I find I have a website as well as a blog. Who knew!

Apparently, what I need is a sticky post! Wish me luck!

Seems like I need to rearrange the whole shebang!

So many options!  What I really want is for my tagline not to be in the same font as the title.

Ancient meets modern

This blog is about my adventures with ancient and traditional crafts, and related activities. The title is because I have wanted to weave since I was a teenager, but to cut a long story short, it has taken me a very long time to get around to it, so I am now an ancient weaver!
